I'm a big fan of the 1950's, I have been since I was very young. 'I Love Lucy' was my absolute favorite show even as a very young child. I loved how the roles were so well defined, but, more-over I was so crazy about how beautiful the women were. I can remember watching Lucille Ball dance around her little apartment in her beautiful house dress and apron...she made it look so easy....the being beautiful, and getting the work done. Gosh....I wish I looked half as wonderful as she did dusting...
I'm not writing about beautiful women...I'm writing today about how lovely the era was for marriage. Women cleaned, they cooked, they were homemakers. I love that. I always wanted to be that. The concept of a "throw-back" wife is really neat to me. There is a wonderful writer, blogger, and Christian woman named Courtney Joseph...she takes this whole 1950's wife to the extreme, and while I do so admire her and there are so many lessons I can learn from her, I'm not sure I can even come close to where she is at in her journey to be a "throw-back" wife. She looks stunning at the end of each day when her husband walks into their home, and she states that she saves anything "grumpy" for later as to not bombard an already exhausted husband...I do agree with that...yet, I do not find time in my day yet to get all "dolled up" prior to Rob coming home...yesterday he found me in the kitchen, feet covered in sticky sweaty grass, hair a mess...and smelling like I'd just mowed the grass (well, I did!).
Roles have changed since the 50's...it's totally appropriate for women to be outside mowing...but, I still fall back to the love of this "throw-back" wife thing. I love the respect women showed their husbands at that time, I feel like that's such a lost art in our day and age now. Men were the leaders of their home....they mattered...now, it seems the roles are not as well respected. On the flip side, it seemed in the 50's men were more respectful of their wives even....they would surprise them with flowers, small gifts....little tokens of their love. What a lost practice that is for so many.
Maybe we need to re-claim some lost time...fall back into an age where respect was considered admirable...now it seems its considered the norm to disrespect the spouse...keep secrets...hide things...gosh...the 1950's they were a beautiful age.
I admire those women oh so much. Beautiful, elegant, and so kind....the men were strapping...tasteful...kind...and full of respect for their wives. Let's dash a little bit of the "olden' days" into our modern society....
Just a few tid-bits.....

-A Chevy Corvette cost about $3,000
-A one-way flight from New York to California cost $88
