I am certain that you are sick of me talking about Angela Thomas, the brilliant author that is so very insightful! But, I absolutely must reference her AGAIN. In one of her books she talks about always being the home with open doors, always be a safe place for all of the family, and friends to play. Always have room for one more.
The way I see this, our home should be like our heart...we should always have the ability to squeeze room in for one more. We all want a big heart, right? The more the love, the larger the heart. The more I can serve in my home, the happier my home will be.
My Sister and her husband work very odd hours, and have two kids. Working strange hours, with an infant, and a 6 year old cannot be easy...but, when one gets sick it is even more difficult. So, yesterday Mr. Aiden, Natalie, and myself went and picked up my nephew, Ethan who is 6. (His baby sister is the one who was ill). We played at the park for hours, had lunch, came home, and played outside the entire afternoon. Those two boys were making mud pies, jumping on the trampoline, investigating worms, and just being boys.
And although they were able to play, and make more memories together, Aiden was learning a valuable lesson. The lesson on hospitality and the notion that being hospitable is so rewarding. I always want my home to be full of laughs, and people I love.
I had stopped off at the store yesterday before the plan was to have Ethan over and to spend the night. I bought 3 yummy gouda chicken breasts, and 3 twice baked potatoes for us to all have. Once we had another little mouth for dinner I just improvised, and made a little something else. I feel like these little dilemma's should not stop us from making room for one more. Those two little boys could careless if they were scarfing down a gourmet meal, they cared about playing and just being kids.
It was so nice as we all got ready for bed watching Rob read a bedtime book to another little child. I always want us, as a Mooney family to open our doors. We do not have a big house, but it is full of BIG love and I hope we will always be able to share that.
Thank you God for the blessings you have given us, and the ability to share them with the people we love. AND, thank you for giving me plenty of mud to clean up from two little boys playful shoes :-)
