I found myself in the dentist chair this week. And, for anyone who knows me I HATE dental work..I was in tears at one point. Anxiety just jumps into my skin and takes over. But, I did it! I made it, and I've lived to tell.
Although, upon evaluation we discovered my teeth are moving. They are NOT supposed to be moving! I went through years upon years of dental work, and now I'm being told we need to go back to...BRACES! WHAT?!? I had far too many years of braces to go back now. I'm too old for braces I thought....
This got me to thinking about "braces" in life, and the necessary constraints we need to sometimes place on ourselves. Hum...eating comes to mind. Lately I've had a terrible sweet tooth, and my waist would indicate that as well...so for some people it's the brace of a diet they need to go back to. For some maybe it's the brace of more structure in their lives...maybe they need a better schedule. Sometimes we need to melt back into that mold that makes us better. Apparently my teeth need to be molded back where they should be to prevent future pain.
Braces in life are not always easy to put back on, because typically we are letting go of something else that has had a negative impact on whatever it is needing to me remodeled, or remolded. For my teeth it is grinding them...according to the dentist I'm grinding them causing movement. With food maybe it's not buying cookies at the grocery store, and soda...it's putting the constraint and the braces on. Sometimes we need to re-train ourselves and put the braces on to grow...to be a more beautiful person..and to be the person God meant us to be.
We are never too old to need braces. The young, the middle aged, and the older...we all can improve, and we all need to realize when it is time to brace ourselves.
