I just love this picture...no, I don't really think parenting is a terrible job. It's a ton of work...
I'm surprised I have a moment to write to be very truthful with you...this week alone we've spent a small fortune on our daughters allergies/and asthma...we've moved her crib to every room in this house hoping it will help her sleep and cough less...we've rubbed vicks...we've been vomited on...repeatedly...we've wiped tears...some were our own...and, WE'VE LAUGHED.
Our Natalie is battling allergies, and asthma...blah! My two newest rivals. I honestly think in the past 3-4 nights Rob and I have slept maybe 5 hours or so...needless to say, it's been really rough...
Parenting is hard. It just is. Parenting and life are both full of really great, really bad...and more than a healthy dose of sleep deprivation for parents with sick kids. I'm blessed. I'm REALLY blessed to be on this journey with my very best friend.
Many parents would be at each others throat...well...I would be inclined to be snappy...and cranky...I just don't do well without sleep...I love sleep...
This weekend, however, I came to realize that I'm on this journey, which right now is full of sleeplessness with an amazing man...a man that slow danced to 'Humpy Dumpty' with me in the kitchen (because the song makes our crazy little mess of a daughter happy)...while we made french fries at 10pm...because, well...no one was sleeping anyway...One of my favorite memories of this sleepless weekend was Rob laying in the kitchen floor laughing out of pure hysteria...I was on the kitchen counter stuffing my face with french fries...and Natalie was running through her plethora of animal sounds so enthusiastically...at 10pm...
This parenting journey isn't perfect...we aren't perfect...but, we are doing all we can to enjoy this journey together...one step and one sleepless night at a time.
On a side note, Natalie seems to be slowly improving...as I sit here writing to you she's been asleep for an hour! THAT'S a really big deal! :-)
Enjoy your spouse...even when the world around you isn't so perfect...those memories will last a lifetime.
