This week has been such a bold reminder to me that rest is oh so important to our bodies. Earlier in the week heat exhaustion took it's toll...and, as if I didn't learn much from that, additional yard-work, power-washing, and more mowing just tossed me right over the edge after church. I was pouring myself a glass of sparkling lemonade and we noticed an incessant shaking of my hands that would not stop! My body is totally exhausted! I rested my head on Rob's shoulder during church, and truthfully could have lived up to the good ole' baptist persona of napping during the sermon.
I really do forget that I cannot accomplish everything without a bit of rest. I struggle with resting. Each time I go to sit down I recall that something else needs to be done, the curtains aren't hanging straight, the porch needs to be swept off, the garden's need to be weeded, the lawn needs to be mowed, the bird feeder needs to be refilled, the laundry needs to be done, dinner needs to be sat out, the dishwasher....blah blah blah...somewhere in all of this I need to learn that the work will still be there waiting for me, but, my health will not always be there.
So, this weeks challenge is to rest. Pick one day, and use it to rest. My family needs a well rested Mom to care for them...I'm excited to tell you how I manage with a full day of restful activities....ha ha...! I wonder if I can do it!?
