I've been there...I have a friend who has been there...and I know you've been there...as a mom, dad, and parent...you've been made to feel pretty crummy for your parenting...mothering...and fathering...everyone has something to say about how you do it...don't they?
"Well...I would do this..."
"They are really messing up..."
"I wouldn't do that"
"I cannot believe they did that...or this..."
Good gravy...I've said...you've said it...and we've all heard it. Ya know what? No one knows the exact way to parent!!! No one has it down to a perfect art-form...because there isn't a perfect art! My way isn't always the right way...and it isn't always the wrong way...but, it's A WAY. My children aren't made for cookie-cutter parenting...and I really don't think your kids are either...God wired our kids so differently and I just don't think any two children are made the exact same. Personally...I'm finding so much beauty in that!!!
I strongly believe in reading, and learning from others what I can about parenting...because I'm not a fully seasoned Mama...I have so much to learn, and I know so many that can help at least...give me A WAY to do things.
I sometimes think that as parents, moms, and dads we are a bit quick to judge our fellow parent...I know I am certainly guilty of that on occasion. I had a friend who was recently made to feel shameful because her son let out a burp! Goodness, if I had a dollar for each time my son let out an "inappropriate" burp I'd be one wealthy woman! (now, this isn't to say we need to help guide our kids...we do...that's why we are here) Maybe...just maybe...instead of passing judgement on our fellow parent we could just embrace them? Tackle the season with them...not against them?
Each of these children that God has blessed us with is unique...they have unique talents, gifts, and struggles...God designed them as individuals...so this concept of cookie-cutter parenting just doesn't fit. I think we should be open to suggestion...open to learning...open to idea...but, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to pass judgement?
Enjoy your art!
